Eglise Greffeil Traditional Cache

Greffeil is situated in the valley of the Lauquet at 25 km of Limoux and 25 km of Carcassonne. There are 80 residents. The village is very old. They found some neolitique settlements. The first mention was in the IX century with the name Agrifolium.
The greatest part of the church dates of the XIV century and is build on the found of an old castle. The castle was distroyed during the crusades against the Cathares. You can see the founds underneath the church if you go to the field under the church.
In Greffeil there is also a bridge of the XVIII century. The bridge and the church are protected monuments.

Greffeil, is gelegen in de vallei van de Lauquet op 25 km van Limoux en 25 km van Carcassonne. De gemeente telt een 80-tal inwoners. Het dorp is zeer oud. Er werden neolithische nederzettingen gevonden. De eerste vermeldingen dateren uit de IXe eeuw onder de naam Agrifolium (hulst), waarvan de naam Greffeil afgeleid is. (avec des griffes - met klauwen)
De kerk dateert voor het grootste gedeelte uit de XIVe eeuw. Ze werd gebouwd op de grondvesten van een oude burcht, die waarschijnlijk werd vernietigd tijdens de kruistocht tegen de Katharen. Onderaan de kerk (in het veld achter) zijn deze grondvesten nog duidelijk zichtbaar.
Greffeil heeft ook een brug die dateert uit de XVIIIe eeuw. Ze overspant de rivier de Lauquet.
De brug en de kerk zijn beide geklasseerde monumenten.
