The Maryland
Geocaching Society invites everyone to join us on Saturday, October
8th at 9:00 AM for an Introduction to Geocaching
Presentation.
We would
like to invite anyone who has an interest in the hobby of
geocaching or just curious about what is involved in participating
to come out and join us. If you've ever seen someone lurking about,
looking suspicious with a GPSr in their hand, you may well have
encountered a geocacher. Feel free to join us at the Lake House in
New Germany State Park in Grantsville, MD for an overview
presentation of geocaching along with a Question and Answer session
followed by a cache hunt portion.
New Germany
State Park's visitors frequently call it a "best kept secret." This
mountain gem is nestled between the 2,900 ft. Big Savage Mountain
to the east and the eastern Continental Divide along Meadow
Mountain to the west. Named by early settlers due to its
resemblance to their homeland, New Germany has diverse forests with
ten miles of multi-use trails and a small lake suitable for
fishing, swimming, and non-motorized boating. This park is ideal
for families and individuals looking to "unplug" from a
tech-reliant society and escape from the busy pace of life in
cities and suburbs.
The
presentation will start promptly at 9:00 AM in the Lake House and
will be followed by a Question and Answer session until
approximately 10:00 AM. Then from 10:00 - 10:30 there will be a
cache hunt for a temporary geocache placed nearby, this will give
the attendees an idea of what it's like to seek a geocache in the
wild. At 10:30 the MGS Fall Picnic will be starting, so attendees can
stay if they'd like to socialize and can probably even tag along
with other geocachers to seek official geocaches already placed in
the park. We look forward to seeing everyone on October 8th and
sharing the hobby of geocaching.
Some great
introductory geocaching information can be found on the homepage of
Geocaching.com.
Since New
Germany is a Maryland State Park, there is an entry fee of
$2/person and for out-of-state residents $3/person.
