Geocache Description:

UPDATE APRIL 2023!!! READ THIS! As of today the hints have changed to reflect a new hiding spot for this cache! If you solved this before now you will need to rework the numbers for the new location of the final!

ARROW POINTING TO HEAVEN THIS CACHE IS A TRIBUTE TO RICH MULLINS This is an easy two step cache. You will need to take information from this page and find additional data at the above coords to calculate the coordinates for the final. Information in the first two paragraphs below is taken from FJ Cruiser's previous write up for APTH II. Everyone is allowed to log this cache, even if you found one of the previous versions as this is a new hide! Richard Wayne Mullins went home to be with his Maker in September of 1997 at the age of 41. In spite of the great loss many felt, Rich’s legacy and music lives on- and it always will. He is known around the globe as the Christian singer/songwriter who penned the words to “Awesome God”, “Sing Your Praise To The Lord”, “Step By Step”, “Creed”, “Elijah", “Hold Me Jesus”, "Growing Young", "The Color Green" and a host of others. Beyond his writing gifts, however, Rich was recognized by those closest to him as a man who was unmistakably honest about his flaws and absolutely passionate in sharing the news of the love of Christ with others. Mitch McVicker, who was with Rich the night he died, stated, “I guess he kind of wore his heart on his sleeve and so you noticed pretty quickly that he was far from flawless. I think that’s why people were attracted to him.” Rich Mullins was not larger than life, and neither did he pretend to be. His heart, however, was colossal, and it showed in some major decisions that he made as his music career begin to take off. In contrast to many of today’s musicians, Rich found little value in living a “comfortable” life of wealth and prosperity. He put this belief into action as many close friends testify to the way Rich invested his time, energy, and resources. A few years prior to his death, Rich moved to a Navajo Indian reservation in the state of Arizona, where he taught music to native American children. He continued to tour and was still gaining popularity in the Christian music world, but was content to call a small trailer “home” within the reservation. It was here that he joyfully shared his passions- music and the life-changing love of Christ. Rich was not afraid of death- and communicated that though his songs and also during simple, honest conversations with friends. Death for Rich Mullins was simply the opportunity to join forever the One he lived for and the One who gave His life for Rich - and Rich knew full well that there was nothing in this world that could compare with that. THANK YOU FOR VISITING ARROW POINTING TO HEAVEN CACHE. Rich was like a hero to me and I hope you were blessed today as you reflect upon his life and all that he lived for. If you are interested in reading more about this man who was born and raised near Richmond, IN, there is a well put together topical biography written about him entitled “An Arrow Pointing to Heaven.” The name of this cache and the title of the book were both inspired by a picture that was taken of Rich on a hill, which depicted him pointing heavenward with his arms to his side like an arrow. SOME interesting information about Rich. He recorded over a hundred songs and only four of them were not written/co-written by himself. His favorite song he wrote was "Elijah". One of the lines of that song is: "When I go, I want to go out like Elijah." He learned to play the hammered dulcimer so he could better relate to his father and his culture which was Appalachian. Whenever he signed an autograph, he wrote two words after his name. Also he had a favorite Bible verse. Both of these are on his grave marker. APTH III Rich Mullins and his music have had a large impact on my life. We were born just weeks and a hundred miles apart but I didn't really know or appreciate his ministry until after his death. Traveling near his hometown and places he visited and studying his lyrics accentuated my interest in learning more about him. I've read the Arrow Pointing to Heaven book three times and consider it more of a devotional than a biography. His musical legacy has impacted countless artists which continues to this day. The simplicity of the life he led and his honesty about his own struggles are lessons for us all. But most of all he wanted people to know about the love of God. That more than anything is what he communicated through his music and words. And that will stay with me my whole life. Thank you Rich! APTH II was my fifth geocache I found and one of my all time favorites because of everything noted above! This is one that definitely should be kept going! NEW HIDE 9/19/17!!! (I've had at least three caches disappear from the last spot so I'm trying a new hide and location! Clues have been modified accordingly. NOW TO FIND THE CACHE: The coords to the final are: 39.59.ABC 084.47.DEF A = Three markers to the south there is a date at the center bottom with two rings above it. Use the last digit of the year.
