Geocache Description:


Wimbledon Common is a large open space in Wimbledon south-west London, totalling 460 hectares (1140 acres). There are three named areas: Wimbledon Common, Putney Heath, and Putney Lower Common which together are managed under the name Wimbledon and Putney Commons. Putney Lower Common is separated from the rest of the Common by about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) of built-up area. Apart from being the famous home of The Wombles, Wimbledon common is well known too for being a fine place for cycling, jogging and walking, and also home to The Wimbledon Common Golf Club and The London Scottish Golf Club. This Cache has been placed with the kind permission of Wimbledon and Putney Commons Conservators Ranger's Office.
You are looking for a camouflaged container slightly bigger than a 35mm film canister. The above co-ordinates should take you to a tree with an unusual trunk in the shape of an 'O' - stand with the old stream trench behind you and look through the 'O' of the trunk (but don't put your head through!). You should see a holly tree straight ahead approx 40 ft away. The path to the cache has gentle slopes and would be manageable for pushchairs but may prove quite difficult for wheelchairs and it can get muddy in wet weather.
