North Shore, Lake Hodges. In Honor of Jerry Schad, author of Afoot and Afield, San Diego County. (trip 9, Escondido). Within hand reach from trail. No need to disturb vegetation. Bring your own pen. Only room for a log. Last maintenance done Jan 30 2021.
There are two ways to get to this trail. Either from Sunset Drive (exit 15 at Via Rancho Parkway), east to Sunset Drive (golf club) and double back to small parking area. Don't leave valuables in your car. Or if you don't want to spend about half a mile walking by the freeway, take Via Rancho Parkway exit west to Lake Drive. At the lake entrance (near Date Lane) drive to the boat launch parking area. The trail head is at the back of the parking lot (east). This area of the lake is only open to traffic on weekends, Wednesdays and holidays between March and October. On other days park on Lake Drive and walk the extra mile.
