A Northbrook Benchmark Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Geofogies: The Village of Northbrook has once again been hard at work with the chainsaws and once again the cache container has gone with the tree. There's no good spot nearby to relocate it so it's time to say goodbye to this cache--it's had a good run.

Geocache Description:

Update 7/17/22: Once again a change at GZ for the final has caused us to relocate the container. We have tweaked the formula to find the new coordinates for the final stage.

Update: 8/8/21: Once again a change at GZ for the final has necessitated a new container and a tweak to the formula to find the new coordinates..

Update 3/10/21: Once again there is a change at GZ for the final so we have relocated the container nearby and tweaked the formula to find the cache. Ready for more visitors!

One day last year we were walking in our neighborhood park and noticed that somebody had come in when we weren't looking (which is frequently) and installed a benchmark. We know a lot of cachers enjoy discovering benchmarks so we placed the coordinates at the benchmark but made a little puzzle to calculate the coordinates for the actual cache container and log.

When you look at the benchmark you'll see three letters followed by two digits. Call the two digits AB. To find C and D, do the following calculations:

[(B-A) X 11] -4 = C

(AB X 17) -12 = D

To get the coordinates for stage 2:

Add C to the North coordinates and subtract D from the West coordinates.

You can walk to the final from stage one. Good luck!

CONGRATULATIONS TO N9TOG AND TZINNY ON THE FTF!
