Welcome to the Fredericton Geocaching Tour!
This cache is part of the Fredericton Geocaching Tour. You are looking for a small container. In it is a message from the City of Fredericton, a log book, a pencil, and a symbol (for your passport). Download the passport HERE to track your progress on this series.
There are also rewards to earn on your progress with this series! After completing 5 caches, you will earn a wooden nickel. After you've found 10 caches, you will also be awarded with a pathtag. If you manage to find all 15 caches, you will receive a limited edition locally produced trackable pewter geocoin! (first come / first served for all rewards) to track your progress on this series.
This series is constantly evolving. If there is ever a cache disabled or archived, you can still claim the geocoin for finding the remaining caches. There are currently 15 active caches.

Bienvenue à le Visite de Fredericton Géocachatte!
Cette cache fait partie de la visite de Fredericton par géocache (chasse au trésor GPS). Vous devez chercher un petit contenant. Vous y trouverez un message de la Ville de Fredericton, un carnet de route, un crayon et un autocollant (pour votre passeport). Vous pouvez télécharger le passeport ICI pour suivre votre progression dans cette série.
Vos progrès dans la série peuvent aussi vous valoir des récompenses! Quand vous aurez trouvé 5 caches, vous mériterez une géopièce de 5 ¢ en bois. Quand vous en aurez 10, vous recevrez une petite plaque métallique. Si vous trouvez les 15 caches, vous obtenez une géopièce détectable en étain, produite localement en édition limitée! (Pour toutes les récompenses, le principe du premier arrivé, premier servi s’applique.)
Cette serie évolue continuellement. Si un geocache devient desactivé ou archivé, vous pourrez quand même reclamer les "geocoins" après avoir trouvé les caches qui restent. Il y a 15 geocaches actifs en ce temps. |

Salamanca
An estimated 2,000 Loyalists arrived in St. Anne's Point from Parrtown, joining the few original inhabitants, for the winter of 1783. The site was not only attractive but strategically located as it was near the near of navigation, central to the province, and across from the mouth of the Nashwaak River – a direct route to the North Shore.
Many of St. Anne's Point Loyalists were of Dutch decent with some surnames being VanHorn, Akerman and Van Buskirk. Records of the first winter speak of an early and severe snowstorm and a time of great hardship. Bedding was in short supply, and adults spent nights heating boards by fires to keep the children warm. Most settlers lived in tents or huts. Many perished of cold and starvation that winter, and their graves may still be seen at the Salamanca landing site.

Salamanca
Environ 2000 Loyalistes sont arrivés à Pointe Sainte-Anne, en provenance de Parrtown, pour se joindre aux premiers habitants des lieux et passer l'hiver 1783. L’endroit était non seulement attrayant, mais aussi stratégiquement bien situé puisqu'il se trouvait près d’une voie de navigation, au centre de la province et de l'autre côté de l'embouchure de la rivière Nashwaak, une route directe vers la côte Nord.
Bon nombre des Loyalistes de Pointe Sainte-Anne étaient de descendance néerlandaise et portaient des noms tels que VanHorn, Akerman et Van Buskirk. Des comptes rendus du premier hiver parlent d'une violente tempête de neige survenue tôt en saison et de grandes difficultés. Il n'y avait pas assez de lits et les adultes passaient la nuit à faire chauffer des planches près du feu pour que les enfants restent au chaud. La plupart vivaient dans des tentes et des huttes. Cet hiver-là, beaucoup sont morts de froid et de faim, et on peut encore voir leur tombe dans un endroit appelé Salamanca.
