Drummer Boy

This cache is a part of The Detroit Institute of Arts Inside/Out program.

  Drummer Boy, 1857
Thomas Couture (1815–79)
French

It looks like this boy is just playing around, making music. But the artist includes a rifle nearby, which tells us that the youngster was a drummer for the military in the 1800s. In France, orphans or sons of soldiers were often drummers, beating time for marching troops and even communicating orders on the battlefield. See this child, with his very grown up job
…at your DIA.
Inside/Out brings reproductions of great treasures from the Detroit Institute of Arts into your community. Discover them all around town.

At the posted coordinates, you'll find five signs mounted to a brick wall. The shape, color, and placement of four of those signs should look familiar. For the puzzle, you will be using those five signs and the four familiar ones. That will be done by placing the familiar logo to the right of the five signs, so they will equal a total of nine. That's two rows, five on the top and four on the bottom.  Starting at the top left, number each 1 thru 9, in a clockwise direction to find the final use the images below.
