You are expected to physically sign the log sheet in order to log your find on-line.
"Finally, A Tree of My Own" may be an easier tree to climb than some but the cache is still up a tree. If you don't feel comfortable or safe doing this, please don't. Better safe than sorry. As with any tree climb you should really take someone else along with, someone with a cellphone. Again, better safe than sorry.
My daughter and I were exploring the woods after checking on a nearby cache of mine. I have been looking for a tree climb I could call my own. Most of this climb seemed to have decent enough foot and hand holds. Getting back down did not seem to be too difficult. I have tried to clear away any dead branches as they are not reliable hand or foot holds.
The cache container is a small camo painted bison tube. This isn't about hiding it from you but is about making it less visible from the ground. It is attached by a leader wire to help ensure it stays up in the tree. It is preferable to remove only the bottom of the cache. If you feel you have to open the clasp on the leader wire please be very sure to properly close it when you put the cache back. Please be sure the ring on the top of the cache container is over the hook. Hopefully this will all make sense when you see it. Of course, you will need to bring your own pen or pencil and a log extraction tool.
I have found that a quick and simple log extraction tool can be made from a small paperclip. Straighten one end out. Grab just a small portion (maybe 1/32 of an inch or 1 millimeter) with a long-nose or needle-nose pliers then bend it at a right angle.
Please sign the log to claim the find, preferably after climbing the tree for yourself. It shouldn't be too hard to sign it in the tree. It is fine to post pictures of the tree although I would prefer if the exact location of the cache on the tree is still left in doubt.
