The Walks
The Walks’ consists of stunning tree lined avenues covering a 27 acre expanse and dates back almost 800 years. The public park was established during the 18th century making it one of the oldest in the country. It is designated a grade II historic park.
The King's Lynn Paving Acts of 1803 and 1806 authorised the demolition of much of the town walls leaving only fragments intact. The Gannock Gate was also taken down also, but rebuilt as a picturesque ruin in 1816 at it's present location close to the Red Mount.
The Red Mount is a remarkable building in that it is completely unique and no other building like it can be found. It was built in the 15th century by Robert Corraunce on instructions from the prior of Lynn to contain a relic of the Virgin, but was also used by pilgrims on their way to Walsingham. It is a grade 1 listed building.
