Geocache Description:

One end of the Suncoaster Trail is near Earls Cove and the other is currently near Secret Cove. The trail has been recently upgraded by the Sunshine Coast Regional District and they have plans to further extend it to the Langdale ferry terminal. Currently there are some funding issues holding back the completion of it though.

The trail will provide a whole new connection from ferry to ferry; one that can be hiked or biked or done in parts at one’s leisure. One of the more interesting parts of the trail is past Lone Owl Lake. There are, however, a number of wyes in the trail and you want to ensure you are on the right trail so you don’t get lost. The trail is well signed but this cache should also help you out. If you are approaching from the south east, there is another trail going to the right (north east). Do not take that one. Continue on past the wye and go about 50 metres to the cache. From there, carry on north westerly along the trail and you should eventually get to Lone Owl Lake. If you are approaching from the north west, once you have found your way to the cache, stay right at the next wye (about 50 metres away) and go south easterly and you eventually should find your way out to the Sunshine Coast Highway.

This sign is in the Klein Lake area of the Suncoaster Trail but is typical of all the signs along the trail. They are mounted on 6 x 6 posts.

There are maps of the Suncoaster Trail available at this webpage: http://www.scrd.ca/Suncoaster-Trail of the Sunshine Coast Regional District website.

Other trail maps of the Suncoaster Trail and other trails on the Sunshine Coast are available from this website: http://www.sunshine-coast-trails.com/index.html. Scroll down the left side and view the Homesite Carlson Map and the Middlepoint Map for information about this area.

Starting from the north end of the Suncoaster Trail, there are five other geocaches that can be visited while en route. They are GC2G0NZ, GC2QM03, GC2QKZB, GC2J3FX, and GC2PA1Q.

The cache container is a recycled aluminum water bottle and contains the usual SWAG as well as a “Wally The First To Find Frog” geocoin. If you take this geocoin; First: be sure to log it out of this geocache and into your hands. Second: only take the geocoin if you have plans to create a new geocache and put it in it. The idea is to take the geocoin and then create a new geocache to put it in. If you don’t plan to create a new geocache, then please leave it for someone else who will. If you don’t take it, remember, you can always ‘discover’ it.

"Wally the First to Find Frog" geocoin has now been set free by Merewynn1066 so watch for it in a new geocache.

As GPS reception is spotty in the area due to the heavy tree canopy, look about three metres west of the trail at the base of a cedar tree.

As usual, if you have any problems with or finding this geocache or any others of mine, please let me know. Happy hiking or biking and geocaching. Remember that the wise old owl might want to know why you took that wye.

Congratulations go to Merewyn1066 for the first to find. Well done.
