Geocache Description:

McArthur Island Treasure Hunt (MITH)

The McArthur Island Treasure Hunt (MITH) series is a geo-training playground for new geocachers with a variety of cache types and difficulty levels. Caches are safe, family-friendly, and some are wheelchair accessible. All caches promote the highest standards of geocaching etiquette by encouraging cachers to practice low impact caching, respect other park users, and trade responsibly.

Most of all, they are meant to be fun!

What started out as an idea to transform Mac Island into a geo training ground to help new cachers learn the game of Geocaching, has become a reality.  It is an easily accessed, level site in which you can learn to Geocache in a safe, easy to navigate environment.  We have created at least 12 new caches, along with 2 established caches that have been revised.  We are hopefully going to have an Earthcache and possibly a night cache as well.

The event will start at 10 am until 2 pmPlease arrive at 9:00 am so we can get registered, gps units loaded, paperwork handed out etc.

Newcomers will be able to access a gps unit (as these are rented gps units, a security deposit will be required) and then tour the island with experienced cachers whom will assist you with the gps and finding the various caches hidden on the island.

Caches will vary from the traditional single stage, multi stage caches, a puzzle cache, a CITO (Cache In Trash Out) cache, wheel chair accessible caches and of course the event itself.

The MITH Cachers group of 6 encourage you to bring the family, a lunch and proper attire for the weather.

Doors open 9:00 am.  The event starts at 10:00 am, October 29, 2011

  • All geocachers from novice to experienced are welcome.
  • Meet and greet at Norbrock Stadium on MacArthur Island.
  • In-person registration will be in the Stadium.
  • Cache information will be available in print form and GPX files to load your gps.  Please bring your cable.
  • Participants are asked to donate one prize per family (if possible) as the "registration fee" for the event.
  • Drop off prizes at registration table, please.

We will again meet at 2 pm in the Stadium to give out prizes and finish off a great few hours of caching.
