Geocache Description:

SBA = "Santa Barbara Archived" Airport Control Tower

Cache is located just up the street from an Airport Control Tower Cab, just like the one in the movie "Airplane!", where Steve McCroskey (Lloyd Bridges) paces around saying things like, "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue." But, this control tower is not at an airport. Surely, I must be kidding! Well, I'm not kidding. And stop calling me Shirley. This tower is just off the 101 at the Fairview exit. Yes, it used to be the control tower at the Santa Barbara Airport. When the Airport got a new better control tower a several years ago, Seth Hammond (The nearby crane shop owner) pulled up one of his huge cranes and pulled the old one off for them. His plan was to install the control tower at his house at the end of Fairview Ave. Apparently adding this type of structure was not in accordance with his neighborhood's Design Guidelines. Today the control tower sits vacant on a lot near the crane shop. Since it doesn't control anything anymore, I guess it's really an "out-of-control" tower. Watch out!
