Drive your Chevy to the levee (it should still be dry) and park at
the James River Landing at the end of Ferry Street. Them good old
boys are still singin, but they won't be drinkin, and they're
friendly. Cross back over the train tracks. Climb the levee and
follow your GPS. You'll know you're close when you meet the Father,
the Sonand the Holy Ghost on their way to the coast.
You'll pass the old Tobacco Warehouse (ca.1830) and the new
Canal Basin Square Park under construction, where batteaux and
packet boats will be on display. There's a nice view of the town
and the river along the route, of the Scottsville Museum (1846),
and renovations underway of several historic buildings, like the
Old Tavern (late 1700s).
When you get close, like Jack, you'll have to be nimble and
quick, so be careful. Try not to disturb the moss by making the
stones roll. There's a trap door on the river side for easy access,
under Don Mclean's thumbprint.
