An old book, but one that my children both loved for bedtime reading. The Shy Stegosaurus of Cricket Creek, by Evelyn Sibley Lampman, follows a pair of twins that have left the city and have moved to a dying ranch. While wandering the ranch, they are unexpectedly saved from a rattle snake by a stegosaurus. This book made my kids smile a lot and has worked it's way into our annual reading.
Rockman's park is a great place to get away into nature while still being in town. In the winter you can cross country ski or snowshoe. In the summer and fall you can enjoy taking walks under the shade of the numerous trees. Beware spring, however, you may lose your shoes in the mud.
