Geocache Description:

In Slovenia there are 12 places that have preserved pillory or PRANGER. These are medieval cultural attractions, where they used to punish the offenders. "Rihter" condemned and then with the consent of the lords imposed a penalty. Attached to a stone were thieves, adulterers, suspicious loafers, brawlers, .... All those who in the opinion of the nobels have acted inconsistently with their “moral law”. Pillory stone was erected at the site where the most people gathered (the church). Convicts were usually tied to the pillory from morning till evening, without food and water, insulted by passers, being hit by rotten fruits, turd, spit and other. Negova is one of the places with the pillory. Matej Slekovec, a priest from Kunova and chronicler wrote that there was once a red cross at the original church (standing one was built in 1710), serving punishment. Then the priest has resisted this and demanded that this humiliating act must be removed from the sacred ground. So Negova got a stone pillar engraved with the year of the 1656.
