Geocache Description:

Cache is located in an old gold mining area known as Spring Gully. The area is approached from the Vaughan/Fryerstown-Chewton road on its east side.

Spring Gully Junction Mine is one of Victoria's best historic collection of old quartz mines. It operated between 1898 and 1911 and yielded much gold. The area contains five mines with well preserved foundations and mullock heaps. It features remains of an ore-stamping battery, an abandoned mine shaft and large mullock heaps overlooking a deep gully, where a little stream gurgles amid the quiet bush. The site is located close to a portion of the Goldfields Track. The first set of coordinates above are those of the car park, which is best approached from the Vaughan-Chewton road. Turn west along Spring Gully road (signposted). After 1 km turn left at crosstracks into Old Coach Road then into Spring Gully carpark. All points are within 200 metres of car park. From the Goldfields Track sign go to S 37° 07.058 and E 144° 14.502. On a black cyclone fence post you will find a tiny black "nano" cylinder (magnetic) only 1 cm in size. Carefully unscrew it in half to find the coordinates of the actual GZ, which is S 37° 07.ABC and E 144° 14.DEF. Replace nano container carefully with clue sheet inside. Actual geocache is a clear plastic container 500 mL size. Pen inside actual geocache container but you will need a pen to write down clue in nano.
