Number sequences in the calendar
dates such as October 10, 2010 (10/10/10) and November 11, 2011
(11/11/11) are occurring more frequently since the start of the new
millennium. For many people this is looked at as a coincidence, but
some may also see it as a phenomenon. Many wonder what these dates
mean and if there is a reason for it. In assessing this phenomenon,
it occurred to me that we must have a Geocaching Flash Mob Event at
exactly 11:11:11 am (daylight) on 11/11/11.
The event will be held at the
listed coordinates (Northshore Park in the Woodlands) and will
officially last for approximately 11 minutes. If you find a rather
large Discover
Only Travel Bug then you are at the right place. Here is what
you need to do to get an “attended” smiley for this
event:
1) Arrive in the
general vicinity of the cache coordinates approximately about
eleven minutes early. Do not come closer than 111 feet to the cache
coordinates. You or someone on your geocaching team must have a GPS
or cell phone in hand.
2) At precisely
11:11:11am, you will hear a loud sound. Immediately, let out your
best yell (Tarzan, howl, etc.) and run towards the coordinates with
your GPS or cell phone held high. If you're not into yelling or
running, just casually walk on over; we don't really care if you
want to make a spectacle of yourself or not.
3) Upon reaching the
listed coordinates, sign the log book.
4) After about 11
minutes, we will all assemble for a group picture. After picture
taking, the event will be officially over. After that, feel free to
catch up on things with geocachers you already know and meet some
“newbies” as well.
5) Log this event as
“attended” online at www.geocaching.com.
We encourage you to bring your own signature items
and trackables (path tags, travel bugs and/or geocoins) to
exchange.
You might want to
mark another “11:11” event coming after this event. On
December 21, 2012 at 11:11 p.m., according to the Mayan calendar,
the world will end!
