Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America requires years of dedication and hard work. In addition to 21 required merit badges, each Scout must complete a project that benefits their community. Building this 9-11 monument was the Eagle Project of Eddie K. of Troop 45 in Mineola. He solicited donations from merchants & residents to erect this monument, and the Village of Mineola paid for the base, pavers and benches that surround it. It was dedicated on September 11th, 2002 and the village holds a ceremony at this monument on the anniversary.

Troop 45 at 911 Memorial Ceremony in 2010
After setting up the Cache to Eagle series, I was impressed with so many projects, but larger containers weren't appropriate at many of them.
Eagle Scout Projects give these young men an opportunity to plan, design, manage and complete an entire project that also gives back something to the community. This will be one of several caches beyond the Cache to Eagle series that show the hard work that these young men have planned and completed. I congratulate them all for their dedication and hard work that goes along with this achievement.
