The Mountain Home Air Force Base is home
to the 366th Fighter Wing, which reports to Air Combat Command. The
base was opened on August 7, 1943. The base has been home to the
470th Bombardment Group, the 301st Bombardment Group, The 72d
Reconnaissance Squadron, the 5th Strategic Reconnaissance Group,
the 4209th Base Service Squadron, the 580th, 581st, and 582nd Air
Resupply and Communications Wings, the 9th Bombardment Wing, the
569th Strategic Missile Squadron, the 9th Strategic Aerospace Wing,
the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing, the 347th Tactical Fighter
Wing, the 366th Fighter Wing, the 389th, 390th, and 391st Tactical
Fighter Squadrons, and the 28th Air Expeditionary Wing. That's a
mouthful to say! There is no argument that the base has been a
player throughout history. This geoart of the F-16 while not the
latest aircraft of the 366th Gunfighters is a fitting symbol for
them.
This set of caches are maintained by
the League of Idaho
Geocachers. The League's email handles hundreds of
notifications every day. Therefore we read all "Did not find",
"Write note" and "Needs maintenance" logs but do not have time to
read all the "found it" logs. We encourage you to use cut and past
logs if you like (really we don't mind) on the first 199 caches
then post your thoughts, positive comments, and what ever you want
us to read on the last cache 200 Thunderbird. We will be reading
all logs of any type from this last cache.
Please be aware of your surroundings,
parts of this art are within a 1/2 mile of the Snake River and
hundreds of feet above it. There is plenty of room to be safe. We
wish you all the best and a safe adventure.
