Geocache Description:

*** Attention ***

These coordinates do not bring you to the final cache location. These coordinates are where you will start your adventure! It is also a great place to park.

This is one of several geocaches I have placed for the SETX Gang Octoberfest 2011 event (GC2XT3D). The event site, Martin Dies Jr. State Park, until 1965 known as the Dam B State Park, is located in Jasper and Tyler Counties between Woodville and Jasper.

Being a state park, there is a $3 per day entrance fee for persons 13 and older. Admission for children 12 and under is free. Please stop by the headquarters to pay your fee. While you are there, get a free "trail" map. It will be handy for finding these caches.

All geocaches have been placed with the permission of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. A permit is on file in the Park's headquarters.

The park rangers have asked us to minimize our geo-trails. Consequently, you shouldn't have to do any bushwhacking to get to these hides. I've tried to make them accessible to all levels of geocachers visiting the park.

As in any woodland environment, you may encounter local wildlife so be aware of your surroundings. I highly recommend bringing insect repellent, a walking stick, and wearing comfortable shoes on this adventure.

One day I was looking for a nearby traditional geocache when I came across a container that I thought was the cache. So, I signed the strange-looking log and headed back to the trail. On my way out, I found the "real" cache. After signing the "real" log, I returned to the container I had originally found. That's when I discovered it was an old Letterbox named "Wading Bird". What an interesting find. After doing some research, I found the letterbox listed on www.letterboxing.org. The letterbox is LbNA #: 13243 and was placed in January of 2005 by DrooP.

I was so intrigued with the whole concept for Letterboxing that I decided to create my own Letterbox Hybrid geocache to teach other geocachers about the predecessor of our game. I've included a puzzle element to my letterbox hybrid cache to make it a little more exciting. So, bring your stamp, ink pad, and logbook and use the following information to find this tribute to the game of Letterboxing.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy it.

You will be looking for an ammo can with tradables. Please place it back exactly how you found it. Happy Hunting!
