Starting out as a housekeeper he built up successful businesses,
being involved in cartage, exporting, and building.
In 1876 he moved his family to this area, eventually building
seven houses for himself and his family, several of these houses
remain. The area thus became known as Chinatown. The remnants of
two of the houses can be seen from GZ. Find GC35ZEP and you will
have found the house Appo built for himself and his wife. The
dwelling built for son Appo Louis and his wife Elizabeth can be
seen from the corner of Brandy Creek Road and is currently
undergoing restoration.
