Geocache Description:

This is our second hidden cache. We have a place on this lake at the east end in Hayward Bay. This cache is located near the Gooseneck Lake Dam on Aulds Road. We originally had it at the bridge but it disappeared fairly quickly and we replaced it at a more secure location. This should be an easy cache from it's new hiding spot and make sure you cover it well. We are sure that Muggles walk this area frequently. You are looking for a sandwich size lock-n-lock.

This cache is placed near the Gooseneck Lake Dam. This dam is not operated any more, the long spill wall seems to be able to pass the spring flows without too much of a rise in water levels and because of this it has not been operated in many years. We are sure from the growth at the spill way, that it would not function if you tried.

The original dam at the outlet of Gooseneck Lake was built by the timber industry to facilitate moving logs downstream to Georgian Bay; the year of this construction is unknown. In 1949 the dam was rebuilt by the Department of Public Works to maintain water levels for the purpose of landing aircraft used for fire protection. The dam was again rebuilt in 1978 to maintain water levels for recreation. The creek runs into Lake Wah-Wash-Kesh a short distance down. Lake Wah-Wash-Kesh is part of the Magnetawan River System.

Arbeg itself was once a booming lumbering town reaching a population of 800 in its heydays of the early 1900’s, but in the 1920’s, the lumbering boom went bust, and the population dropped accordingly.

The cache contains some small trading items. Remember, if you take something; leave something of equal or greater value in return.

Please replace cache as you found it.

Please note that Parry Sound is home of the Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake so be cautious.
