Here is a cache placed at the rest area about 3/4 of a mile south of Westmoreland, KS, on KS Hwy 99. There is a state historical marker describing the California and Oregon Trails that passed through this area. Also, when traveling between the towns of Westmoreland and Wamego, there are signs indicating where the trails crossed and you can even still see some of the wagon ruts.
Across the highway from this spot is a small park with a covered wagon and other information signs. Also, there is a trail that will take you under the highway bridge and to the graves of a few immigrants that died in the immediate area. The trail will take you all the way to Westmoreland and is paved most of its route.
This is a nice little spot to stop and take a break, to have lunch, or to learn about some local history.
The cache that you will be searching for is an PILL BOTTLE.
