Geocache Description:

This cach can be done on it's own or part of a walk. This is a camoflagued cache that will hold a few small swops. Parking for the walk can be found at N 51 53.201 E000 01.348. The path starts at N51 53.202 E000 01.411. The path is not wheelchair or buggy friendly and may be slippery when wet.

The field near the cache has a Roman cross roads in the middle and when the crops ripen it can be clearly seen from the air.
This road is the remains of the old main Braughing road ,before the Puckeridge by-pass was built. Many of the properties in the village of Puckeridge were hit by passing lorries when the A10 went through.
Construction of The old Buntingford to St Margarets railway started in January 1859. The thirteen and three quarter mile branch opened on 3rd July 1863 with intermediate stations at Mardock, Widford, Hadham, Standon, Braughing & West Mill. The stations were rebuilt before the turn of the century.
The closure of the line was proposed by Dr. Beeching in 1963 with only 2000 passengers a week buying tickets to travel on the line. the line finally closed to passengers on 16th November 1964.

If only this line was saved for today.! The villages have grown so much .
