Geocache Description:

I was wandering around the Orchard Homes area and came across this location that was screaming at me to put a cache here. Sorry but I could not resist. In fact I said to myself, I said: “Self, you need to put a cache here”! I understand the locals call this guy "Big Dale".

This is a simple two step multi cache (often referred to as an "offset cache"). The cords will take you to a sign on a post. The sign has two words. One word is 5 letters long – disregard that word. The other word has nine letters in it. Assign the first letter of that word the value of 1 and the second letter equal to 2 and on so on up to nine.

The second and final stage is at:

N 46* 51. (B-T) L Q

W 114* 04.R L (A-I)

This cache is a black tin . It is about the size of a larger pill bottle. If you are going to trade think small.

If you like local history, the gas station and convenience store down the street (south) has many photos and newspaper clippings about this area including the "Target Range School" just further south down the street. The original school is still there but has been added onto.

I have a confession to make! The sign I used for this "offset" cache was already there but I had no idea what it was for. I kinda wondered but did not let it bother me too much. The thought hit me that maybe it was from a long forgotten business but that was about as far as I got. Now that I had to do some repair on it to make it readable, I thought more about it. I took a little time and did an Internet search on the words and - bingo! Very interesting - so that is what those things are called! I have always like them and even mentioned to CadanceO that maybe we should put one on our shop/barn! I now know there are books on the subject and even a map on the Internet so you can find them all over the country and even a map for this "Orchard Homes"area of Missoula Montana! There has got to be at least a dozen within a few miles of this location. CadanceO and I are going to take a drive looking for them soon. Sounds like a great subject for another geocache! LOL

WINTER NOTE: This cache would be quite easy in the winter unless there is a lot of snow.

SUM CHECK: Add the minutes of the north and south final cords you come up with and the sum should be 55.985.

**If your name is not on the physical log it will be deleted**
