The second of a series of caches placed in honour of universities and colleges across the UK. This one is near the University of Southampton, where I took lessons in Japanese.
Since I moved to Hampshire I at long last decided to pursue an ambition I've had for many years - to learn Japanese! For a while, I could call myself a student again, this time of the University of Southampton. I created this series with the hope that visitors to this and the other UCACHEs will perhaps be inspired to hide their own caches at a university or college near them, or at one that has particular significance to them.
A little bit of history:
In 1862, the Hartley Institution was founded. Come 1902 it became the Hartley University College and by 1952 it was known as the University of Southampton, as it still is today.
The University currently boasts over 17,000 undergraduates and 7,000 postgraduates. This makes it the largest University in terms of students in the South East region. It is a campus-based University, the main one being Highfield, where this cache is hidden, but there are four other campuses in Southampton and one for Arts in Winchester.
Emphasis is heavily placed on research at the University and it specialises in many fields. Its schools are Business and Law, Engineering and Environment, Health Sciences, Humanities, Medicine, Natural and Environmental Sciences, Physical and Applied Sciences, and Social and Human Sciences.
You are looking for a magnetic nano which can be accessed at any time of day and can be accessed from a public footpath. Unless you come when all the students are still in bed ([Sunday] morning?), you may want to make sure you employ your super-stealth mode. Don't wear a fake moustache, sunglasses and trench coat though, please! (Or if you do, PLEASE get a photo!!)
If you have a university or college near you of which you are proud and would like to place a cache in honour of, please feel free to expand on the UCACHE series, although please contact thebuttonmushroom first so she can keep a track of the numbers in the series.
NOTE: Please do not extend the series to include schools since individuals looking for caches near institutions where there are children present is very easily misinterpreted and frowned upon.
