As I was placing
geocaches in Highlands Hammock I had originally intended to put a
cache at the end of this board walk. However, when I went to
install the cache there was someone in my way... He seemed to think
that I ought to place a cache right here because he blocked my way
for about ten minutes. So, I sat down and shot my coordinates.
Turns out it was a perfect distance away from other caches and if I
had done what I originally intended I would of had problems with
two caches being too close! A special thank you goes to the yellow
rat snake who helped with this cache's placement
Also, known as the
Everglades Rat Snake, the Yellow Rat Snake is a constrictor that
ranges from Florida up to North Carolina. They typically reach a
length of four to six feet as adults. They love cypress and oak
trees and are amazing tree climbers. They are constrictors that
typically feed on rodents and birds. Recently, the taxonomy of
these animals has been a great subject of debate. As the result of
DNA testing, their genus has been reassigned in the last ten years
but this change has not been accepted by all scientists.
This geocache is
placed in Highlands Hammock State Park with the permission of park
