Geocache Description:

Night cache. Word problem that requires some items to be figured out in advance. Terrain is rolling hills on trails with a hike between 2 and 5 km depending on parking. No bushwacking required but some of the trails are starting to grow in.

The story begins long ago on top of the toboggen hill the kids call "Big Birtha" but what was once the base camp for a surveyor named Cornley who was surveying the land after WWII. While deep in the woods he came across an operating moonshine still and went to report it to the local authorities. As the police report stated, Cornley had been missing for a week when his camp was found by police torn to shreads by what looked like a pack of wolves. His body was never recovered. The surveyors note book found, gave some insite to his last day. The last entry reads...

...Found a still operated by two brutes of men. I do not believe I was seen but decided to get back to base camp quickly. From the still I blazed a trail of white flashes to a large tree precariously leaning to the North East. To make sure these brutes would not follow me to my base camp, I have hidden the North and West coords to this tree in the woods, in seperate containers within sight of one-another also emblazened with white flashes. Beware though I have secretly hidden the actual coords using an old scout trick I learned while serving Lord Baden Powell in India. The location of these coord containers are just off a dark trail on top of a rise of land. From this hill my base camp is 37 chains, 97 links at a bearing of N 11 deg. E from True N.

It is night now so I will have to make it to the authorities in the morning. WAIT, I hear foot steps... OH MY G...

The entry ends here.

Prehaps you can find the resting place of Cornley's still and what happened to Cornley. Just a word of caution though... When the night gets dark and the wind wispers through the tree tops, you might hear Cornley's bones ratteling in the wind. You might actually find Cornley!!!
