Geocache Description:

The cache is a 35mm film cannister, with just room for the logbook and 1 small item, in this case a pebble. It will fit a small tb.

The site is a Famine Graveyard located a few hundred metres off the N25 Dungarvan- Youghal stretch. Crest the hill and look for The Seanachai Bar.
The famine, An Gorta Mór, or the Potato famine took place from 1845 and 1852.It killed 1 million people and caused another 1 million to emigrate to far off shores. It was caused by the potato blight, plus the whole dependance of one third of Irelands population on the potato. Indeed, Ireland exported grain produce during the same period.
The famine changed Irelands entire demographic, cultural and political landscape.
The area of the cache is close to the sea, and you'd wonder how famine touched this area where fish were so readily available. Yet it did, as this graveyard is testement to.
The monument in the centre of the graveyard was erected by local people during the reign of Pope Pius XII to commemorate The Holy Year (1350-1351) and also those that died during the famine years.
The path down to the graveyeard is bordering private property and you may be barked at, but nothing more. Please respect the cache area as a sacred site.
When you are replacing the cache after your sucessful find, please return it as you found it.
