Geocache Description:

The Cache is located beside a public Byway, about 1/3 mile from road, which is the nearest parking. Path is easy but with a small climb at the end. You do not need to enter the Pillbox, but kids might want to anyway !

Part of the defences of the former RAF Cranage airfield the Pillbox according the Pastscape.org.uk is a Second World War type 22 pillbox. The pillbox was constructed after the spring of 1940, is hexagonal in plan, with an internal ricochet wall and stepped gun loopholes in each face. The structure survives to a height of 1.5 metres, has a diameter of 7.2 metres and each of the walls are 3.8 metres in length. Construction is of brick and concrete. There are possible entrances on the east and west side. I am thinking of a possible RAF Cranage series here if it proves popular let me know !
