Geocache Description:

This part of eastney is a regular haunt for dog walkers and little else, but can be included as part of a caching stroll in this lovely area of Portsmouth.
Free parking within shouting distance of GZ!
Please ensure the cache capsule is replaced in the outer cache, as I have found it underneath on a couple of occasions when passing. You'll know what I mean when you find it.

The Glory Hole
The site is on part of a former Admiralty tip. The original Glory Hole was, at the end of the nineteenth century, a tidal lagoon and mud flats to the north of Fort Cumberland Road, divided from the harbour by the former Ferry Road. During the 1920s the site was first used by the Admiralty for tipping dockyard waste. By the 1940s the western end had been fully infilled and was developed for naval flats. From 1945 to 1960 the Navy continued to dispose of dockyard waste to the east, after which the Council used part of the site for disposal of domestic refuse.
The cache is fairly big on the outside, but small inside.
