Geocache Description:

To all cachers on the trails at the sanctuary
Here is an ***** IMPORTANT NOTICE ****** BEAR *****

ADVISORY: May 1st, 2020 -an active bear was found in the woods by the overhanging rocks. It appears to be making a den there. Use caution when in the wooded trails. Beautiful location! The location to avoid is near the property perimeter, along the blue trail (up top near the pines and upper field).

This cache was originally created by participants of the DOAS summer program at the sanctuary. It has been adopted and rehidden by Luckless.Cache may not be accessible when there is ice and snow.

The cache is located at the Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society’s sanctuary atop Franklin Mountain. It is a wildlife sanctuary. There are wild animals there- anything from birds to bears. Please be respectful of the wildlife.
To learn about the Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society and sanctuary go to www.doas.us.
For this cache you should have some knowledge about following trails and trail blazes.
From the middle of August until the end of December there are people manning the hawkwatch. Feel free to bring your binoculars and join them in looking for raptors that are migrating south. You will want to dress very warmly as temperatures on the mountain are always colder than the weather report due to higher elevation.

Here are some things you want to be careful of when geocaching:
Watch your step on the trail. Beware of ruts and tree roots that could cause falls.
Beware of pointy tree branches that could poke your eyes.
Check holes before placing your hand in them. There could be critters in them that could bite you.

As always if you choose to hunt for this cache you do so at your own risk and assume all responsibility.

While you are there you may also want to look for the other three caches hidden at the sanctuary.
Nov. 2nd 2011- The trails are very wet and muddy. You will want to have boots.
Use caution when walking on slippery boardwalks.
