Old castle ruins perched on a small mountain in Polcenigo with georgeous views of the surrounding towns. About a 10 minute walk from parking located at the a Church of Polcenigo.
IT: l castello di Polcenigo sorge in cima ad una collina che, in posizione strategica, domina tutta la vallata. Una leggenda sostiene che nell' 875 Carlo il Calvo assegnò, con incarico militare, questo prezioso posto di avvistamento ad un luogotenente del seguito, il conte di Blois di Francia. Nel 973 il Vescovo di Belluno, a cui era stato ceduto il territorio da Ottone I, riconfermò l'investitura militare conferendo il titolo di Conte di Polcenigo al capitano d'arme Fantuccio, il primo di un lungo e nobile casato. Da allora la fortezza diventò un vero e proprio castello medioevale con cinta merlate, torri e camminamenti; in seguito sorse il borgo, la cui prima menzione storica si trova in un atto del 1200 con il quale i Signori Aldrigo e Guarnerio di Polcenigo concedevano il permesso a chiunque di fabbricare una casa entro le mura del castello. Da allora il borgo si sviluppò sempre di più e si affermò anche economicamente, soprattutto dopo l'avvento della Repubblica di Venezia (1420). Forse distrutto da un incendio, il castello venne ricostruito nel sec. XVIII, nelle forme di una villa veneta, pare su progetto dell'architetto veneziano Matteo Lucchesi. Ora purtroppo dell'antico splendore non restano che le pareti: sono scomparsi l'adiacente cappella di S.Pietro e le dipendenze, il tetto, il salone da ballo e la scalinata di 365 gradini che scendeva fino al borgo, ma la facciata del castello domina ancor oggi la piazza, come un tempo.
Il parcheggio è situato a N 46.032239 E 12.501635 vicino chiesa, dal momento che la strada per il castello è chiuso veicoli. E 'solo escursione 5-10 minuti dal parcheggio, lungo la strada, al castello. La cache è in realtà nascosto nel castello. Le coordinate ho ottenuto sono stati il mio iPhone in modo spero che siano accurate!
EN: The castle of Polcenigo stands on top of a hill, in a strategic position overlooking the valley. A legend says that in '875 Carlo di Calvo gave, with military command, this precious place to watch a lieutenant of the action, the Count of Blois in France. In 973 the bishop of Belluno, which had been ceded territory by Otto I, confirmed the military investiture conferring the title of Count of Polcenigo Fantuccio the captain of arms, the first of a long and noble lineage. Since then, the fort became a genuine medieval castle with crenellated walls, towers and walkways, and later the village was built, the first historical mention is in an act of 1200 by which the Lords of Polcenigo Guarnerio Aldrigo and grant permission anyone to build a house within the walls of the castle. Since then, the town grew more and more economically, and also said, especially after the advent of the Republic of Venice (1420). Perhaps it was destroyed by fire, the castle was rebuilt in sec. XVIII, in the form of a Venetian villa, apparently designed by the Venetian architect Matteo Lucchesi. Now unfortunately there are only the ancient splendor of the walls: they are missing the adjacent chapel of St. Peter and dependencies, the roof, the dance hall and the staircase of 365 steps leading down to the village, but the facade of the castle still dominates the square as in the past.
Parking is located at N 46.032239 E 12.501635 near a church, since the road to the castle is closed vehicles. It is only 5-10 minute hike from the parking area, up the road, to the castle. The cache is actually hidden in the castle. The coordinates i got were off my iPhone so i hope they are accurate!
