Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the Grand Gulf Military State Park near the town of Port Gibson.

4/16/2018 - I have read the reports on the condition of this geocache and the logbook. I will endeavor to replace the logbook and generally update the geocache and contents as soon possible. It's about 70 a mile drive from my home and I'll have to find a day to make the trip. Meanwhile, don't postpone your visit. Find the geocache and log your visit here. You won't be disappointed. You'll find Grand Gulf a great place to visit. I'll report on this site when I've worked on this cache. Thanks, BillyB

Beautiful scenery and much history surround this cache. Take your camera, picnic lunch, tent, or camper; there is much to see and do here.

There is a small entrance fee. Check this web site (www.grandgulfpark.state.ms.us) for entrance fee and camping information. Park maps are available in the park office. Office and park hours are 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

The cache is a green plastic dry-box type container. The cache contains a log book and other geocaching goodies. The easiest approach is to drive to the observation tower and hike from there along the nature trail to the cache. The park map shows a second approach along the nature trail, from bottom of the hill, near the park entrance. We did not try this approach when placing the cache. If you try this approach, be certain to obtain a park map. Attempting to find this cache at night will be a challenge as the terrain off the side of the trail is steep. Also, there is a lot of dead fall around the top of the hill, so be careful as you walk around.

Please reseal all bags and the lids of the log container and the cache itself.

04/12/2013 - After reading the report that the cache was found wet and soggy, we "pulled maintenance" on it, replacing the the old container with a dry box type, refreshing the geo-goddies, and replacing the soggy log with a new one. We also moved the cache a little further down the hill, hid it better, and adjusted the grid coordinates accordingly.

Happy geocaching all!
