Mt.Tsukuba (100 Famous Japanese Mountains)

Although there is a triangulation station at the shown coordinates, the actual cache is not placed at there because this is an Unknown(Mystery) cache. Please read following description. It is enough to read some parts written in navy color for obtaining the actual cache point. Incidentally, although the elevation of the triangulation station is 875.9m, the height of Mt. Tsukuba is decided to be 877m currently because there is the highest place near the triangulation station.

As you know, Mt. Tsukuba is one of the "100 Famous Japanese Mountains". In 1964, Fukada Kyuya selected these mountains based on his opinion for a celebrated mountain such as dignity, history and individuality. However, some people have objection that Mt. Tsukuba should not be in them. They say that Mt. Tsukuba is a popular mountain and easy to approach the top using a cable car and a ropeway compared with others. I think the objection is caused by the simple title despite Fukada Kyuya's personal selection. If the title was "My favorite mountains in Japan by Fukada Kyuya", nobody has objection. However, it might be obscure...

I would like to select some mountains based on my memories from the "100 Famous Japanese Mountains". These are just "my favorite mountains in Japan".

Mt.Tsukuba (Tsukuba-san)
How many times have I come here? As for me, Mt. Tsukuba is the most familiar mountain among the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains.

Mt.Miyanoura (Miyanoura-dake)
I stayed at the top of Mt. Miyanoura on 22nd July 2009. Although it was in a storm center, some people stayed there to experience a total eclipse of the sun. It was a nice experience. I have gone there before that on a clear fine day. This is the highest place in Kyushu.

Mt.Tanigawa (Tanigawa-dake)
I have climbed this mountain several times in various seasons. One fine day, I enjoyed hiking from Doai Sta. to Tsuchitaru Sta. in autumn season. I had to wait a train at Tsuchitaru Sta. for almost 3 hours. However, I was glad to watch the station because here was the opening stage of Kawabata Yasunari's Yukiguni.

Mt.Yari (Yari-ga-teke)
The shape of this mountain is quite unique compared with others. The "Yari" means the "spear" in Japanese. We can distinguish this mountain wherever we are if we are in a visible location. I have climbed the summit twice. In addition, I stayed in a tent near the summit. I enjoyed the sunrise.

Mt.Tsurugi (Tsurugi-dake)
The "Tsurugi" means the "sword" in Japanese. A mandala picture has been handed down at the foothills village. In that picture, Mt.Tsurugi is described as the sword mountain in the inferno. Therefore, nobody seemed to climb this mountain. In 1907, a surveying squad reached the summit with considerable difficulty. However, they found ... Nitta Jiro wrote a novel based on this historical fact as "Ten-no-Ki". I have enjoyed hiking because there are wired ropes and so on to go hiking safety in the present.

Mt.Kinpu (Kinpu-san)
When I reported the Mt. Kinpu hiking, a friend asked me "Did you climb the Gojyo iwa?". I did not know the boulder can be climbed. Therefore, I went to the summit again in autumn to climb the Gojyo iwa. It was a quite nice viewpoint.

Mt.Kasa (Kasa-ga-take)
The "Kasa" means the "woven hat" in Japanese. Therefore, the mountain shape is very beautiful. However, it was a slight hard to reach the summit especially in hot summer. When I went to there, there were many people staying at tent site near the summit. It was Buddhist festival period in summer. I enjoyed the sunrise so-called "Diamond Yari-ga-teke".

E140 06.(Mt.Yari + Mt.Tsurugi + Mt.Kinpu + Mt.Kasa)

If you could not obtain the actual cache coordinates, you can also find the cache using another procedure. There is a stone monument of Yokose Yau at the cache point. Please ask shop workers or local residents where the Yau's monument is. Yokose Yau was a poet born in Ibaraki pref. and a person suffering from rickets. He yearned to climb Mt. Tsukuba which could be seen from his house everyday. Finally, he had climbed to here with Kitahara Hakusyu and others on foot altough there was a cable car. The monument was established in 1935. Ogawa Usen wrote the characters on the rock surface which is a Yau's poet.

The cache is placed behind the Yau's monument. There is a bench in front of the monument. Please be careful if there are some people.

筑波山 (日本百名山)

表示の座標地点には筑波山の一等三角点がありますが、これはUnknown(Mystery)キャッシュですのでキャッシュはそこにはありません。実際のキャッシュは下記の文面(紺色の部分だけでOKです)をお読みください。ちなみに一等三角点は全国に約1000点あります。これは測量法で定められている測量標の一つで基準となる柱石が設置されています。ここの三角点の標高は875.9mなのですが、三角点よりも少し高い場所があるので、今では筑波山の高さは877mと記されていることが多いです。

さて、筑波山は日本百名山の一つに数えられています。これは深田久弥が、品格・歴史・個性を基準に選定したものです。日本百名山は1964年に出版された本のタイトルでもあります。筑波山が日本百名山に含められるのに賛否両論あろうかと思いますが、私は個人的には問題はタイトルが端的に『日本百名山』というからであって、もし『深田久弥が選ぶ百名山』だったら誰も文句は言わないのでは、と思っています。もっともそれだと今のように知れ渡らなかったかもしれませんが。

日本百名山のリストを見て、私が百名山を選ぶとしたらやっぱり選ぶだろうな、という山をいくつかピックアップしてみました。

筑波山
日本百名山の中ではもっとも登った回数が多く、四季を通じていろんなルートで楽しませてもらっているので。

宮之浦岳
2009年7月22日に山頂にいました。かなりの暴風雨でした。山頂には数名いましたが、岩陰で隣にいた人は風速60メートルくらいあるのでは、と言っていました。撮影機材を入れた重いザックを背負っていても吹き飛ばされそうな感じでした。いい経験をさせていただきました。その前にも九州最高峰ということで晴天時に登ったことがあります。絶景ポイントです。

谷川岳
四季を通じて何度か登っているのですが、紅葉の時期に土合駅から土樽駅まで縦走したときが特に印象に残っています。土樽駅で三時間くらい電車を待つことになりましたが、ここが川端康成の『雪国』の冒頭に出てくる場所だと思うとそれほど苦ではありませんでした。土合駅のモグラ駅も特徴的ですね。

槍ヶ岳
新穂高温泉を起点として、テント担いで、鏡平、槍、大キレット、北穂、涸沢、奥穂、前穂、上高地、焼岳を経由して数日後に戻ってきました。日本百名山は三つくらい入ってますが、私にとっては槍ヶ岳がメインでした。

剱岳
新田次郎の『点の記』は、剱岳山頂に三角点を敷設する話ですが、結局四等三角点になってしまい、山頂には標石はないはずでした。しかし私は山頂で三角点の石柱を見つけて驚きました。後になって知りましたが、その一ヶ月前に、剱岳測量登山百年記念で敷設したそうです。『点の記』は、FTFを狙いに行ってみたら現場に他のGCerがいて、どちらがFTFをとるかと競い合ってみたもののログブックを開けてみたら既に訪問者がいた、という経験がある方には面白い話なのではないでしょうか。

金峰山
最初に登った後に友人に報告すると「五丈岩登れました？」と言われました。登るものだと思ってなかったので通過しただけだったのですが、秋にもう一度行ってちゃんと登ってきました。眺めがよかったです。

笠ヶ岳
新穂高温泉を起点にテント担ぎで登りました。テント場もお盆の時期で混んでいましたが、翌朝のダイヤモンド槍ヶ岳に感動しました。

他にもいくつかありますが、くどくなるのでこの辺で。

キャッシュの設置場所は、
N36 13.(筑波山 + 宮之浦岳*5 + 谷川岳)
E140 06.(槍ヶ岳 + 剱岳 + 金峰山 + 笠ヶ岳)
です。

もし上記の式が意味不明でしたら、別の方法でも見つけることができます。キャッシュの設置場所には横瀬夜雨の碑があります。売店や地元の人に尋ねれば場所がすぐ分かると思います。横瀬夜雨は郷土が誇る詩人・歌人です。彼はくる病に生涯苦しめられました。この碑には、自宅から眺める筑波山への憧憬を、女性への思いとかさねた歌の一文が刻まれています。
男女いてさへ　筑波の山に　霧がかかれば　さびしいもの
文字は小川芋銭によるものです。碑は夜雨の没後の翌年昭和10年(1935)に建てられました。夜雨自身は、昭和3年(1928)45歳のときに北原白秋らと筑波山に登りました。当時できたばかりのケーブルカーがあるのにも関わらず歩いて登ってきたそうです。

キャッシュは横瀬夜雨の碑の刻面の裏側に設置しています。 この辺りでは比較的人通りが少ない場所ではありますが、目の前にベンチがあり、たまに休憩されている方がおられるのでお気をつけください。
