Geocache Description:

The cache is located in Karagoz and Hacivat memorial in Bursa, Cekirge.

The cache is a small container which contains some gifts for the cachers. There is also a log sheet but you should bring a pen to log your visit. It is placed under the stage of the memorial as you see in the photos.

Karagoz and Hacivat are fantastic legendary figures of Bursa. As many people believed, they were the very first Turkish stand up comedians who lived and died because of their sense of humor. As it is believed, they lived in the capital of the Empire-Bursa in the mid-1300s. They were the workers of one of the first mosques of the new Empire (as it is known as Orhan Mosque today in Bursa) who were both working in the construction and keeping their friends with their bright and unending jokes. One day Orhan Gazi (the Sultan) noticed the talents of two workers and wanted them to entertain the court. In one of those shows, rather than simply making complaint as most commanders did, they told a tale about the sultan’s corrupt official. This was their last bright show. They were executed by the Sultan. But it is also believed that, Sultan regretted after some years from their execution when he noticed that they were telling the truth… They died but their stories and characters are adapted for traditional shadow theatre (especially for children) which is playing for about 700 years in Bursa.

The cache is dedicated for their sense of humor :)

Good luck!
