De Gemeente Arcen en Velden is in 2010 opgegaan in de Gemeente Venlo. Als blijvende herinnering aan de voormalige Gemeente Arcen en Velden heeft beeldend kunstenaar Huub Rossel een drieluik gemaakt: ‘VeLoAr’, symbolisch voor de voormalige Gemeente. Het zijn beelden van cortenstaal en roestvrijstaal, in de volksmond ‘de eikenbladmannetjes’ . Ze staan in Velden, Lomm en Arcen. De eikenbladen verwijzen naar het oude Gemeentewapen, de mensenfiguren als symbool voor de dorpen en hun inwoners, en de welving van het kunstwerk naar de Maas waar deze dorpen aan liggen. In ieder dorp is een ander figuur van roestvrijstaal gemaakt en geplaatst in dit kunstwerk. Het is een zitbankje dat staat voor gastvrijheid, en nodigt je uit om even te gaan zitten.......
The Municipality Arcen en Velden merged in 2010 into the Municipality of Venlo. As a lasting reminder of the former Municipality Arcen en Velden, artist Huub Rossel made a triptych: "VeLoAr, symbolic of the former Municipality. These are images of weathering steel and stainless steel, popularly called ‘de eikenbladmannetjes’. They stand in Velden, Lomm and Arcen. The oak leaves refer to the Old City Arms, the human figures symbolizing the villages and their inhabitants, and the curvature of the artwork to the Maas, where the villages lie. In every village is another figure made of stainless steel and placed in this artwork. It is a bench that stands for hospitality and invites you to sit out .......
