Cache Commemorating the Oceanside Netarts Great Divide issue of 2011
Early in 2011, a portion of Hwy 131 between Netarts and Oceanside began slipping severely down the hill toward Happy Camp. Despite ODOT patchwork this singular lifeline road between the two Villages continued to collapse at over a foot a week. By the end of Summer, it became a constant repair every few days. ODOT made the decision to close 131 at the slide in August, essentially cutting the two communities in half and requiring a nearly 30 minute detour.
This cache commemorates the year the villages were divided in half.
Another slide cache, my third, this one has an amazing view of Netarts Bay and the Happy Camp community below.
