Geocache Description:

Before we start, please ‘replace’ cache exactly as you found it, just out of sight to make sure its not visible. Also be aware that its a very urban environment and try not to be seen, I don't want to replace it again. Thanks.

This cache is a small sealed bottle top hidden magnetically near the ruins of the Augustinian Abbey which adjoins the grounds of St. Muredach’s Cathedral and was built in 1427 by the O'Dowdas, princes of Hy Fiachrach, for the Eremites of St. Augustine.. Little remains of the Abbey apart from the finely ornamented west doorway with 2 human heads. The monastery was active until its dissolution and destruction under Elizabeth I

.

The Augustinians, however, did not leave and Priors of the Abbey were appointed continuously up to 1835 though the Abbey was in ruin and much like it is at present. A strange thing is that fact that the ruins appear to be slowly sinking, therefore you have to bend over each time you go through a doorway. So don’t loose your head should you visit!

To find the cache location you must go across the street to a park bench near the steps leading down to the rivers edge.
