2 Great Plantation Walk Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

dartymoor: I'm archiving my first series, some two years old, to free a great location for other cache setters.

This series has attracted 96 favourite points from 2,250 logs (an average of 12 FP's per 281 logs per cache) and required four full maint trips. Two caches got muggled and one got trodden on.

Thank you to all who completed this trail, especially those who took the time to write interesting logs of their journey. It's for those cachers that I continue to set new caches!

I will collect the caches shortly.

Geocache Description:

A series placed in a GREAT place for a muddy walk!

Great Plantation is much loved by dog walkers and families alike. Close to Liverton, Heathfield and Bovey it has several miles of paths through mixed woodland. But! Do not bring posh shoes, some of these paths get muddy (see pics) especially in winter so wellies or walking boots are recommended! It's quite flat, but the paths are not all suitable for buggies or wheelchairs.

If you happen to follow my route when laying the series, it'll take around one and a half hours and cover a little under two and a half miles. I parked off the road opposite the Garage on Bovey Straights, but you can pick it up anywhere along the route.

The historic 18 mile Templer Way from Haytor to Teignmouth crosses through here and you'll probably walk along part of it doing this series. Apart from that, I don't know of any particular history in the plantation, but given the Civil War battle sites of Heathfield are right next door, chances are there is some!

Limited parking available at several points around the edge leading directly into the woods. See waypoints, but please don't block the entrances as they will be used by the Forestry Commission.

All the caches in this series are a few steps from the path, and away from the main path running through the woods which often gets quite busy. I've tried to be a little inventive with some of the hides so keep an open mind when looking.

I hope you enjoy these woods. They helped me cope with a redundancy when I was younger, I walked my poor dog's legs off here almost every day for a summer.

Parking waypoints added to the first of this series. GPS reception may be a little fuzzy in places due to the big woody things everywhere. Please bring your own pen(cil) as not all caches are so equipped.

Caches placed in accordance with the GAGB Forestry Commission Peninsular District agreement
