Tillingham Trail #1 Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Bean & Sprout: Unfortunately the hiding place has been set alight and destroyed. I couldn't locate any remains of the cache either. GZ has become a bit of a dumping spot, so rather than replace I am going to archive this one sorry. Will add something new elsewhere and revamp the whole trail when I do.

Geocache Description:

The central area of historic Tillingham has been designated a conservation area and the village has many grade II listed buildings particularly in North and South street.

This cache is our first, and one of several to be placed around the area and designed to take you on a walk around the village if you choose to visit them all. The village is crisscrossed with public footpaths, some more well used than others, and as such is a popular place with hikers and dog walkers. You can choose any and many variation on a route to get between the various caches in the area so the route you choose is entirely up to you.

Although, for this cache, you can drive to the location of the clue and onwards to the cache for a quick cache and dash, we encourage you to park up and have a wander around the village and perhaps even find another cache or two.

As well as St Nicolas church on the square there is also the Congregational Chapel on the corner of South Street and Chapel Lane, and The Peculiar People’s Chapel further along which alas now no longer in use and up for sale.

From either parking area head down South Street past the weatherboard building on the corner of Vicarage Lane which dates back to the 15th century. Continue southwards and you’ll find many of the buildings you pass conjure up days gone by simply from reading the house names – The Old Forge and Wheelwrights in South Street, the Old Slaughterhouse just down Casey Lane. Further along South Street the Old Bakery with the Corn Mill opposite. All of these buildings are now houses.

Please NOTE that mobile phone coverage can be patchy in Tillingham and some networks have no coverage in the village at all.

The cache location is wheelchair accessible although assistance may be required to retrieve the cache itself.

The co-ordinates given are for the small green area as you turn into the village. Here you will find a bench with a plaque. Just behind and along a little is also a yellow H notice above the hydrant which you will also need one number from.

The bench is... “To commemorate the 10Ath birthday of Mrs Mary Mitson BC July 1D68”

The yellow H sign has the following number across the top 44 17E

The cache can be found at:
