Geocache Description:

Hunting Missouri Tigers - HMT

In case you are unaware, Missouri is Tiger country.

Most tigers are active at night, so for your own safety, please do not hunt this cache in the dark.

The footing is not good in some places and it would be dangerous in the dark.

Most sports fans are aware that the University of Missouri mascot is the tiger and the school colors are black and gold. It is a nice mascot, portraying power and strength. So when you come hunting for this cache you must remember you are in Tiger country.

When the Missouri Tigers are winning you know it all over the state. What you probably didn't know is the "little known fact" that there are "real" tigers in this state.

I found a cache of treasure in an out of the way place, but little did I know it was being guarded by a tiger. A very hungry an powerful Missouri tiger. I've marked the spot with my gps, but I was running for my life under tree cover, so my marking may not be that good.

Let me say a few things that might help. In the area there are shoulders on both sides of the road. I picked a spot to west on the south side of the road that was very wide. In other spots the shoulder can be a bit thinner. You can go even further west, park in the park, and make the trek east to GZ.

As you get pretty near GZ you'll see signs of the tiger, or at least one sure sign of the tiger. If you decide to enter the woods from the nearest spot on the road to GZ your descent will be rather step. In general there is a lot of steep descent on the north side of the road if you come from the west. So watch your step and stay on the shoulder and not in the woods. I continued to hike east past the cache until I found an easier slope to descend.

After descending a little, I turned back to the west and approached GZ, where the action is. Speaking of action, when I watch Mizzou football on TV I'm sitting in my easy chair just a few feet from where the action is (my TV). Here at GZ things are a little different.

You are looking for a treasure cache almost the size of a plastic peanut butter jar, about 6" tall and 4" in diameter. It holds valuable riches and is securely kept in the tiger's den. You'll have to look hard to find this one.

You'll probably want to leave, but you won't. The tiger's curse will keep you there. You'll want the treasure cache. It will be hard to leave ... unless ... unless you meet the Missouri Tiger. I saw the cache but did not come back with it, and I will not return to that area.

Good luck brave cachers, be safe, and happy caching.

Congratulations and FTF honors to stewy1966
