Geocache Description:

In April of 2006 I was hiking with a friend on a nice trail. We came upon a man with his three year old daughter sitting next to a river. We said “hi” and went on our way. About ½ hour later we were heading back on the same trail and found them at the same spot. The girl was happily playing with pebbles next to the river and her father was walking around while he was looking at a device in his left hand. This time we struck up a conversation. To keep a short story short, he introduced me to the world of geocaching. Within two days I had my first hand held GPS. I went online and looked for the closest cache from my home. I loaded my soon to be “geo-dog” Chandra into the car and went off for our first geo-hunt. The wonderful part of this search was that I had no idea that this trail was there. And it was less than a mile from my home.
From that first cache on I was hooked. Mostly because geocaching has brought me to wonderful trails and interesting spots that I would not have discovered otherwise.
My first cache find was “Matt’s Mail Chute” that has sadly been archived. This cache is placed in the exact same location. The trail head is on the northern side of Lake Iroquois. During the summer months there is a booth on the road that would like your money to swim at a beach near the trailhead. Just tell them that you are there to hike. No charge. Have fun and cheerful searching!
