This cache has been archived.

Southerntrekker: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not repaired/replaced it, I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

Geocache Description:

On a small hill overlooking the Railway station & harbour stands a memorial to 'JOHN MACGREGOR Skinner' who was the master of the post offices ships in the harbour during the 19th century.
Captain Skinner came to prominence nationally for investigating on behalf of parliment, why most ships passengers prefered travelling from Liverpool to Ireland rather than Holyhead, and found that the ships from Holyhead were of lower quality.
He got to know the local people well and was not only respected as a Captain, but as a benevolent person who cared for those less fortunate than himself, he turned down a knighthood by George IV, so as not to jepordise his career on the Steam Packets.
In 1832 at the age of 70, he was washed overboard while Captaining the paddle steamer "Escape" and bringing her into the towns harbour.
The people of Holyhead placed this Monument in his memory in a place where he can still look over the harbour and people of Holyhead ,please visit the monument, there is fantastic views of the the harbour and of HOLYHEAD TOWN ....BEWARE OF MUGGLES IN THE AREA !!.....ENJOY YOUR STAY & PLEASE RATE THIS HOTEL !!

CONGRATULATIONS to Christinem82uk & Wateratwales for FTF
