Great Patriotic War Museum Letterbox Hybrid
How Geocaching Works

A letterbox hybrid cache located near the Motherland statue in Kyiv.
The Motherland statue, located at the Museum of the Great Patriotic War (what Westerners call World War II), is visible from many places in Kyiv. Much of the museum grounds are free to access, and have monuments, equipment, and even tanks that look like they received the hippy treatment. The museum is also home to the WWII virtual geocache, the oldest cache in Ukraine.
For my 100th physical cache hide in Ukraine, I decided I wanted to do something special, so I hid this letterbox hybrid in the woods on the edge of the museum grounds, near a stairwell down the hill. The container is a black lock&lock style container, located in the centre of a tree under a small plank that was conveniently already laying right where it needed to be. Follow the stairs at the south end of the plaza area down the hill to N50° 25.561 E30° 33.905, then leave the stairs and go west; the tree is not far away and clearly visible. The terrain is very easy right to the tree, but the ground is a little steep at the cache spot, so be careful of footing. The tree the cache is hanging in has thorns, so be careful! The cache is a short tube container about 1.5m up and hanging from a branch.
As you head to the cache, be careful to watch where you step. People can duck into the woods to answer nature's call, and sometimes in natural areas you can also see where someone has used a needle. I haven't see that right where I hid the cache, but things can change so watch where you put your feet and remember to always look where you put your hands and be aware of your surroundings when caching in a new area.
