Die Ahl
Die Ahl, eine beeindruckende Basaltlavawand, enstand vor rund 400.000 Jahren beim Ausbruch des Hochsimmer-Vulkans. Hier floss Lava weit in das heutige Stadtgebiet von Mayen und hat dabei das alte Tal der Nette aufgefüllt.
Beim Einfließen kam es zu vielgestaltigen Absonderungsformen, die in den monumentalen Lavawänden aufgeschlossen sind. In diesen Wänden wird der Abfluss zweier Ströme in das Ur-Nettetal sichtbar, die durch unterschiedliche Abkühlungsbedingungen zu einer einmaligen Säulung der Lava führten.
Basalt ist ein Ergussgestein. Es besteht vor allem aus einer Mischung von Eisen- und Magnesium-Silikaten. Basalt ist für gewöhnlich dunkelgrau bis schwarz. Der Basalt besteht zum größten Teil aus einer feinkörnigen Grundmasse. Gröbere, mit bloßem Auge zu erkennende Einsprenglinge sind relativ selten, können aber bei einigen Basaltvarietäten häufiger vorkommen.
Wenn die Basaltlava mit Verzögerung abkühlt, entstehen durch das Zusammenziehen nicht selten meterlange eckige Basaltsäulen (Säulenbasalt), die sich senkrecht zur Abkühlungsfläche bilden, bevorzugt mit einer hexagonalen (sechseckigen) Geometrie. Eine eher selten auftretende Erscheinungsform des Basaltes ist der Kugelbasalt, die man bevorzugt an Rändern von Basaltlagerstätten findet.
Um diesen Earthcache zu loggen müsst Ihr folgende Aufgaben erfüllen:
Aufgabe 1 : SCHÄTZT die Ausmaße (Höhe & Breite) der Ahl.
Aufgabe 2 : Beschreibt die Beschaffenheit sowie die Farbe der Wand.
Bonus: Findet die Trackingnummer und Ihr könnt den Earthcoin Erde discovern.
Schickt mir die Antworten per Email und wenn alles stimmt erhaltet Ihr die Freigabe zum loggen.

Nachtrag: Hier soll in der Zukunft ein Information Pfad entstehen. Dann wird dieser Earthcache modifiziert. Das Gelände darf betreten werden, hierzu habe ich extra Rücksprache mit dem Vulkanpark Zentrum in Polch gehalten. Dies ist ein Teil des offiziellen Vulkan Pfades.

The Ahl
The Ahl, an impressive Basaltlavawand Created, developed around 400,000 years ago by the eruption of the “ Hochsimmer” volcano. The lava flowed well into the current urban area of “Mayen” and it has filled the old valley of river “Nette”.
