Point Pinole Regional Shoreline has all the best feature of East Bay parks - rolling warm meadows, ample picnic areas, breathtaking bay views, eucalyptus woods, and huge earth-covered foundations of century-old dynamite manufacturers. Parking (gates close at 4 PM) is $4 when the kiosk is manned, and there is some free parking on the road before the official lot. Dogs are allowed off-leash in some parts of the park
Pinole Cat Cache is about a mile's walk on mostly level ground, with a small scramble at the end. We got great reception until the woods; if your GPS flips out, try the hints. After you find the cache, head west for some of the breathtaking bay views, or northwest to a fishing pier.
Cache is a clear Rubbermaid container, hidden well.
This is the first cache we've planted - comments and suggestions of course welcomed. We love this park, it never seems too crowded, and the variety of terrain and view is great. We hope you like it too!
January 21st: Posted pictures from the cache camera (may contain spoilers) - what a great-looking bunch of folks! We tried to match up the picture with the geocacher - apologies if we got it wrong!
TadCooler will be taking over this cache soon as we are moving to Portland - goodbye Point Pinole!
