Geocache Description:

The Red Dog can geocache, well maybe not, I dont know. This cache is not a reference to the recent movie, but more to Red Dog Hut about 50m down the road from the cache.

This hut, eventhough it has been rebuilt a couple of times is named after a red dog. It was owned by one of the workers that planted this now non maintained Arboretum. The original hut was built for their use and the dog would wait dutifully their at its owners command.

I dont have a lot of confidence in my etrex 20 to work under tree cover, so you can find this one without the coordinates but the coords will make it a little bit easier.

About 50m the east side of red dog hut (painted green) a dirt track enters. Opposite this on the lower side about 5m over the edge is a 2 metre long cut log. To the east a couple of metres is a rhodendron type plant about 4m high. Under this is a log and on the lower side of the log you will find your cache under some autmn leaves.

This small series is a fun attempt at involving our pets.

Why shouldn't our pets be involved in geocaching, we have caches for kids, 4wd's, in and on water, for rock climbers, city and country and the list goes on. So this series sets you on a path to really obvious locations where you can lead your dog too and probably tell it to find the geocache. Inside are a range of dog treats, for scent but to provide an experience for dog and owner.

These are non-swap caches. They are quite large in size, but full of dog treats. Instead of a swap, I ask that you provide feedback as to the suitability and condition of the contents, and if the cache was still well hidden. A full description of where to find the cache is in the notes, so that you can lead the dog straight to it in a sniff and hunt type manner.

Even though the caches are designed for owner and dog, anybody can do them, but without a dog you are limited to signing the log.

For this series it is best to park at the gate at the Junction of Mathias Rd and Silvan Rd.

Please note that there signs up warning of snakes, prickly plants and other things that may not be suitable for a pet. I have tried to make it as easy and simple as possible, but everybody and their dog is different, so please make your own judgements. It is hoped you will keep your dog on a leash.
