Some bushwacking required; not so much because of undergrowth but lots of windfalls in this area.
The reason I chose this location is because I used to spend a lot of time playing near here when growing up. The site is said to have been where a cheese factory once stood and is now simply called the Cheese Factory Corner.
The Little River Cheese Manufacturing Company Limited was formed by local farmers who were trying to improve their economic conditions since farming in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s was not very profitable. This cooperative company was owned by a small group of local farmers and each one was required to buy one or more shares in the business. The milk was bought mostly from these farmers who were partners in the co-op. The co-op was first organized in February of 1892. The building stood at the intersection of Highway 14, Highway 202 and the Indian Road. There is a brook that runs through the intersection and it was somewhere on the brook that the actual cheese factory was built. The factory stood at this spot for some time into the 1900’s.
Since it was close to Christmas when I placed this cache, I would like to keep the trade items on a Christmas theme. There was a Christmas ornament, several small felt ornaments, Christmas tags, a bow and a log sheet and pen in the original cache.
Congrats to Silver Donald for the FTF!
Merry Christmas everyone!
